Robert Gaudette is a Canadian filmmaker, AI creative technologist, author, and former photographer based in Welland, Ontario. He is the founder of Nolia Studios, where he develops emotionally driven films and visual projects using generative technology.His short film A Face Only a Mother Could Love won the Grand Prix at the 2026 Runway AI Film Festival and Best Picture at Australia’s Omni Film Festival. It has also received international festival recognition, including a Best Director award in Portugal and selection for the Reply AI Film Festival.Before moving into filmmaking, Robert worked as a photographer, an experience that shaped his instinct for composition, atmosphere, and the revealing human moment. His nonprofit work also taught him to look beyond labels and appearances, deepening his interest in empathy, resilience, and people who are often misunderstood.Robert approaches artificial intelligence not as a shortcut, but as a new filmmaking instrument. Working through writing, direction, cinematography, production design, editing, and performance, he uses language to build cinematic worlds with emotional and visual continuity. His work is particularly focused on character, human vulnerability, and finding something truthful beneath the technology.
